In the case of a gas, the relationship between pressure and volume is inverse. As the pressure is increased on a gas, the volume decreases, all other factors being held constant. A gas's pressure decreases as its volume increases. The Gas Law, proposed by Robert Boyle, states that pressure decreases as volume increases. For a constant temperature and pressure, Boyle's law states that the volume of a gas decreases as the pressure increases. P ∝ 1/V. As a mathematical expression, P = k/V expresses this relationship. An explanation of Boyle's Law and its application to pressure and volume issues involving gases. A gas's volume decreases as its pressure increases. A gas's volume reduces as its pressure increases, all other conditions being equal. When more space is occupied by a gas, the pressure exerted by that gas drops. The inverse relationship between pressure and volume is described by Boyle's Gas Law. At a constant temperature, Boyle's Law states that the volume of a gas will decrease as the pressure increases. P ∝ 1/V.  P = k/V is the formula that can be used to calculate this.
