We had no clue that there was gonna be a loved ones visit. And the best part about it was there was no catch to it. No one had to compete for their loved ones. No one had to compete for their children. I think that this is our reward for giving so much to this game that we love that Jeff was like, "Hey, good job, guys." And so today was a full-on celebration. ” S40 sarah t Sarah “ It was like everybody put their guns down for a minute and the war was called to a halt. It didn't matter if someone wrote your name down last night or not. My son's playing with the enemy, but that's okay, because we're humans right now. And it was really cool to see everybody in their element. ” S40 tyson t Tyson “ To have kids out here for the first time like that, whole families out on Survivor, I think it was definitely something really special. I was genuinely happy for everyone, that they got that moment. ” S40 amber t Amber “ You bring family members here, it's like you never knew we were suffering, ever. Everybody's so happy. Everybody has energy. Every-- nobody's thinking about hunger. Nobody's thinking about anything else. Like, we've escaped for a few moments, and we're as happy as can be. ” S40 parvati t Parvati “ To have my husband here, who I met because of Survivor, and our baby here, where we should not even be having a family visit, my mind was exploding. ” S40 adam t Adam “ It's-- I needed my dad to be here, to get some sense of closure for my mom's passing. The most important thing was giving my dad that opportunity to be here, where she was with me, where she is with me. ” S40 adam t Adam “ Him being able to come here, it made everything okay. ” S40 wendell t Wendell “ My dad, he's the best. He's my hero, and it was just so good to see him. ” S40 yul t Yul “ I-I can't describe how much sheer joy and happiness I felt in that moment. ” S40 ethan t Ethan “ I will always have that moment that I shared with my wife here on Edge of Extinction. And that is, like, so special. ” S40 natalie t Natalie “ This is the one time on Survivor when you are yourself with your family and you can see people just be themselves with the people that they love the most. It was a magical moment. ” S40 rob t Rob “ It was amazing, having my kids here. They got to come out here and experience what we've been doing for almost 20 years. ” Trivia Secret Scene Behind the Scenes Other The title of this episode is said by Ben Driebergen when Jeff Probst asked him how he feels about having a moment with his wife and kids. A setup for the Centrifuge challenge was built during the family visit as a decoy to conceal the fact that the survivors won't be competing to be with their families for the day. With the appearances of John, Nadiya, Rachel, and Val, this episode's family visit contains the most previous castaways, with four. Val is the first previous castaway to appear as a loved one twice. This episode marks Tony's first individual immunity win. Tyson becomes the first player to be sent to the Edge of Extinction twice. This is the first episode this season where someone voted out doesn't have any Fire Tokens to bequeath to another player in the game. Instead of Tyson's final words, the episode concluded in a scene after Tribal Council in which the Edge inhabitants thanked and hugged Jeff for allowing their loved ones to visit them. Survivor: Winners at War is the fortieth season of Survivor and will feature twenty of the show's previous winners to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Production The season was filmed in May–June 2019, two weeks after Survivor: Island of the Idols. Much like every previous season to feature an all-returning player cast, challenge producer John Kirhoffer revealed that classic challenges return to commemorate the show's 40th season and 20th anniversary.[4] The pay scale for the season is significantly increased. The winner will take home $2,000,000. The first person voted out is guaranteed to take home at least $25,000 instead of the standard $2,500.[5] Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine, who both appeared on Survivor: Island of the Idols as mentors, only had two weeks to prepare for the upcoming season. This season's reunion is to be filmed virtually, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
