Happy Star Wars Day, everyone! May the 4th be with you! So here's the story: in 2013 we were working on Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars. I've always done impressions and voices but had never done it professionally. Darth Vader was a voice I had done since High School, so I put together a little demo for the show creators, Dan and Swampy. I spent a weekend honing my inner James Earl Jones (like you do) and recorded a few lines from our show on Garage Band with my Snowball microphone, added a few effects, and gave it to Dan on Monday. "Wow, this is pretty good," he said. But, they had just cast the role of Vader with an approved Lucasfilm voice actor. No worries. A year went by, the series had wrapped, and I moved back east with my family. Then one day out of the blue, I got a text from Dan saying they had cast me as Vader. Seems I captured more of the 1977 essence of the character that they were looking for. The only unfortunate part was I never got to go into a studio and record. They just used the Garage Band file I recorded. Oh, well. Maybe there will be another chance some day in the future.
