Mateer - Strangered In Paradise (Full Album 2020)

This time the videos document part of last year I spent in a few different places in Indonesia. The first song could almost be from the point of view of a balanda born in the Dutch East Indies who has never seen his home country, even though I wrote it based upon my own experiences as a colonial boy born and raised in a different part of the world that is not of my own heritage. Interestingly the word balanda is the Yolngu people of Arnhem Land's word for white person as well. They got it from the Indonesians who visited regularly to trade with them prior to Europeans actually setting foot in their country. These facts are intertwined. In keeping with our Baha'i belief in the oneness of humanity and prejudice-free love, I am married to an Indonesian. The administrative red tape that every National Corporation insists upon and costs involved in order to live together are a clear reminder that the world federation is not here yet. Be gone ye olde superstitious tremblers at the thought of Damien the Omen child rising up to take over the planet! We all know multi-national corporations can destroy cultures, robbing the world of some of its magnificent diversity, and are part of an unjust economic system. This is not the world order envisioned by Baha'u'llah. His is a far more weighty and spiritual, practical and just embodiment of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, one in which the lion of the president of the most dominant state on the planet lies down with the lamb of the king of the smallest island nation and spears or nuclear weapons are beaten or transformed into instruments of peace and prosperity or ploughshares. One thing that is for sure, by the time, in the words of Baha'u'llah, "these fruitless strifes, these ruinous wars" have passed away, and the 'Most Great Peace' has come, couples from Australia and Indonesia or Spain and the UK will be able to live together without first going through all the hassle and expense which man made arbitrary lines on maps and divisions of power currently make them go through.
